Job done – so far – by Sussex, who earn their fifth batting point from the final ball of the day as Jofra Archer takes a single off Derbyshire’s Tony Palladino.
Having been 65-3 and 111-4, their innings was rebuilt by skipper Ben Brown, with the help of Harry Finch and David Wiese.
Finch went for 82, but Brown and Palladino put on 142, with the former hitting 14 fours in his 116 before being bowled by Lockie Ferguson.
Wiese is 89 not out, and Derbyshire may have to manage without paceman Ravi Rampaul on day two after he was taken to hospital as a precaution after experiencing breathing problems.
